Most yield products let you earn a rate. RateX lets you trade the rate itself, with leverage. It splits yield-bearing assets such as JitoSOL, JLP or sUSDe into principal and yield, then lets traders go long or short the yield portion with up to 10x margin. The project has since launched its RTX token, distributed a Season 1 airdrop in phases and added a second product, Mooncake. This guide explains how the mechanics work, what the token and airdrop numbers actually say, and where the risks in a leveraged yield market are easy to miss.
What RateX is
RateX describes itself as the first leveraged yield exchange. It launched publicly on Solana in October 2024, expanded to BNB Chain in April 2025, and is run by a Hong Kong-based team with traditional finance backgrounds. DefiLlama tracks almost all of its deposits on Solana, with only a small amount on BNB Chain.
The official site is rate-x.io, the trading app is at app.rate-x.io, and the documentation is at docs.rate-x.io. Mooncake, the second product, lives at app.mooncake.fi.

How yield trading on RateX works
RateX builds everything on three tokens:
- ST (Standard Token) wraps a yield-bearing asset so its price stays fixed in the quoting asset and the yield shows up as a growing token balance. One ST-JitoSOL stays worth one SOL, while the number of ST-JitoSOL in your account rises as staking yield accrues.
- YT (Yield Token) is the right to the yield of one ST until a maturity date. Its price moves with the market’s expectation of future yield. The docs give an example: on a six-month mSOL YT, a rise in implied yield from 7% to 9% lifts the YT price by about 27%.
- PT (Principal Token) is the principal part, redeemable for the full value at maturity.
Those tokens power three products in the app:
- Leveraged yield trading. Go long YT if you expect yields to rise, short it if you expect them to fall or want to hedge. Margin can be up to 10x. A long YT position appears alongside a negative ST balance, because the protocol lends you ST to buy the YT.
- Earn Fixed Yield. Deposit a yield-bearing asset, effectively sell its YT, and keep a PT that redeems at maturity. In the docs’ example, a holder pays about 0.985 SOL for something worth 1 SOL in three months, locking in roughly 6% a year.
- Liquidity provision. LPs deposit yield-bearing assets into a concentrated-liquidity AMM that pairs YT and ST. They earn the asset’s own yield, a share of trading fees and the profit or loss from acting as the counterparty to traders.
Markets, fees and margin rules
The markets listed in the docs include JitoSOL, bbSOL, BNSOL, JLP, Sonic sSOL, lrtsSOL, USDe, sUSDe and sUSD, each with dated maturities. Traders post margin in SOL for the SOL staking markets, and in the asset itself for markets such as JLP or USDe. Key parameters:
| Parameter | Value in the docs |
|---|---|
| Trading fee | 1% of the ST amount per trade, half paid to LPs |
| PT management fee | 5% of the accrued ST yield |
| Yield position fee | 5% of the yield your position generates, including points |
| Expiry fee | 2% annualised on unclaimed tokens, starting 14 days after a market expires |
| Initial / maintenance collateral ratio | 110% / 105% on the main SOL and JLP markets |
The maintenance check uses a five-minute time-weighted average price rather than the spot price, which is why the app sometimes caps leverage below 10x after a sharp move. The 1% trading fee is high compared with spot DEXs and matters a lot for anyone who trades in and out frequently.
RTX token and the Season 1 airdrop
RateX’s points program ran as Season 1 and fed into the RTX token, which went live in late 2025. The tokenomics page sets out the numbers:
- Maximum supply of 100 million RTX, with 16.66 million circulating at launch. The token exists on both Solana and BNB Chain, and the mint addresses are published in the docs.
- Ecosystem and community receive 44.18% of supply, team 20%, treasury 20% and investors 15.82%. Team and investor tokens start unlocking from month 12.
- 6.66% of total supply was reserved for the Season 1 airdrop, campaigns and market making.
- The airdrop is released in three phases: 20% at TGE, 30% three months later and 50% six months after TGE.
RTX utility, as described, has two parts. RateX says it will use up to 30% of ecosystem revenue from RateX and Mooncake to buy back RTX on the open market and pass those tokens to contributors. And once Mooncake’s permissionless market creation is live, staking RTX will be required to create new leveraged-token markets, with creators earning a share of those markets’ revenue.
At the time of writing, RateX has not published the rules of a second points season in its documentation. If you held a Season 1 allocation, the phased schedule means later tranches unlock months after TGE, so check the official app rather than assuming everything was paid at once.

Mooncake: leveraged tokens
Mooncake launched in October 2025 as what RateX calls the first permissionless leveraged-token market. Rather than opening a margin position, users buy a token that carries a target leverage on an asset, which may be a yield-bearing token, a major coin, a meme coin or tokenised equity. The design aims for liquidation-free exposure by rebalancing leverage, and its funding positions are themselves tokenised. Mooncake revenue counts toward the RTX buyback described above. Leveraged tokens decay in choppy markets, so they suit short directional views more than long holds.
Getting started on RateX
- Open app.rate-x.io directly and connect a Solana wallet such as Phantom, Solflare or Backpack. Choose the BNB Chain side only if your assets are there.
- Pick a market you understand. If you already hold JitoSOL, its YT is the simplest place to start because you know where its yield comes from.
- Try Earn Fixed Yield first. Locking a fixed rate on a small amount shows you how PT and maturity work without leverage.
- Trade YT with low leverage. Watch the collateral ratio, not just PnL. Remember the 1% fee each way.
- Diary your maturities. Claim or roll positions within 14 days of expiry to avoid the expiry fee.
Risks specific to RateX
- Yield is volatile. YT prices move sharply when underlying APYs change, for example when JLP’s fee income drops or a liquid staking token’s points incentives end.
- Liquidation and ADL. When a position falls below maintenance, the insurance fund takes it over. If the insurance fund goes negative, auto-deleveraging closes profitable opposing positions, and if that is not enough, losses are passed to LPs.
- LP counterparty risk. LPs are the other side of every trade. A run of winning traders is a run of losses for LPs.
- Underlying asset risk. Each market inherits the risks of its asset: Jito or other LST depegs, JLP’s exposure to Jupiter perpetual traders, or Ethena’s funding-rate model for USDe and sUSDe.
- Thin token liquidity. RTX has a small market cap and low on-chain liquidity. Selling a sizeable airdrop allocation may move the price.
Spotting fake RateX claim pages
- Official domains are rate-x.io (including app.rate-x.io and docs.rate-x.io) and mooncake.fi for Mooncake. Lookalikes like “ratex-airdrop”, “rate-x.app” or “ratex.io” without the hyphen are not official.
- The official X account is @RateX_Dex. Check the exact handle before trusting any “Season 2 checker” link.
- Airdrop tranches unlock on a fixed schedule. A site promising to “unlock vested RTX early” for a fee is a scam.
- Compare any RTX contract you are shown with the mint addresses on the tokenomics page in the docs before you trade or approve it.
FAQ
Is there a RateX airdrop in 2026?
Season 1 airdrop tokens are still unlocking in phases after TGE. No Season 2 rules have been published in the docs at the time of writing.
What is the difference between YT and PT?
YT is the right to an asset’s yield until maturity. PT is the principal, redeemable at maturity. Together they equal the full yield-bearing asset.
Can I lose more than my margin?
Your position can be liquidated and your margin lost. The insurance fund and ADL are designed to stop losses spreading further, but they can affect other traders and LPs.
Is RateX only on Solana?
It started on Solana and added BNB Chain in 2025, though most activity remains on Solana.
Verdict
RateX is a genuinely specialised product: a way to take a view on yields themselves, or to lock in a fixed rate, on Solana’s main yield-bearing assets. Its token is live and its Season 1 airdrop is still vesting, so the main reward question now is about future seasons that have not been announced. Use it if you understand rate trading, keep leverage modest and pay attention to fees and maturities. This article is not financial advice.
