Euler is a lending protocol that has already paid rewards for two years, so the useful question is not whether an airdrop is coming. It is how Euler’s incentive machinery works, which vaults are worth the risk, and how to claim what you earn without walking into a fake portal. Euler v2 also has an unusually candid recent history: its own team has published a retrospective on what went wrong in 2025 and early 2026, and that context matters a lot for anyone depositing to chase rewards.
What Euler v2 is
Euler v2 launched in September 2024 as a rebuild of the original Euler lending protocol. Instead of a single shared pool, v2 is a set of modular vaults. Anyone can deploy a lending vault with the Euler Vault Kit (EVK), choosing the asset, oracle, interest rate model and which other vaults it accepts as collateral. The Ethereum Vault Connector (EVC) lets these vaults recognize each other, so a deposit in one vault can serve as collateral for a borrow in another.
Vaults are grouped into clusters run by curators (risk managers) who set parameters. Around this core sit other products: Euler Earn, a managed yield vault that allocates deposits across lending vaults, and EulerSwap, an AMM that uses Euler lending liquidity to make markets. The protocol now runs on many chains, including Ethereum, Base, Avalanche, Sonic, BOB and others, and its governance token is EUL.
Euler’s own Q1 2026 review describes a strategic shift: the protocol is repositioning as lending infrastructure, stepping back from operating its own markets, sunsetting DAO-managed vaults in favor of curators, and removing inactive chains from the official app (the contracts stay accessible on-chain).

How Euler rewards work: rEUL and Merkl
Euler ended its old points program in late 2024. A governance proposal in October 2024 noted that users found the points unclear because they offered no tangible benefit, and replaced them with Reward EUL (rEUL). Legacy points holders received a share of 1,000 rEUL in proportion to their points.
rEUL has a specific unlock structure that every recipient should understand:
- 20% unlocks immediately when rEUL first arrives in your wallet.
- The other 80% unlocks linearly over six months, converting 1:1 into EUL.
- Redeeming early forfeits the rest. If you convert before six months, the still-locked portion is burned. You keep only what has unlocked so far.
The original proposal capped rEUL distribution at 5% of EUL supply over a year, with allocations per market changing based on performance. Distribution runs through Merkl, the incentive platform. Campaigns target specific vaults on the supply or borrow side, often for one-month periods, and Euler’s interface shows a breakdown of lending APY, intrinsic yield (for example on liquid staking tokens) and rewards APY. Vault curators and partner projects can also fund their own Merkl campaigns on Euler vaults, which is why you will sometimes see rewards paid in tokens other than rEUL.
Current status of incentives
At the time of writing, rewards on Euler are campaign-based and vary by chain and vault. There is no single season or snapshot to wait for. Some practical points:
- Earlier rEUL campaigns on Ethereum ran through Euler Prime and partner clusters in one-month blocks; later campaigns spread to newer chains such as Sonic, Berachain, BOB, Base and Swellchain.
- Euler’s own Q1 2026 retrospective acknowledged that growth to over 4 billion dollars in deposits had been heavily incentive-dependent and fragile. The team has also recommended cutting protocol fees to zero for the foreseeable future. Expect incentive budgets to be managed more selectively than in 2025.
- EUL itself has drawn new attention in 2026, including a listing on Upbit in August, which affects the dollar value of rEUL rewards.
How to earn and claim, step by step
- Open app.euler.finance from euler.finance. Select the chain you want. If a chain has been removed from the app, do not hunt for an unofficial front end; read Euler’s announcements on how to exit.
- Pick a vault, then read its curator and collateral settings. Each vault page shows the curator, accepted collateral, oracle and loan-to-value ratios. These matter more than the headline APY.
- Check the rewards breakdown. See how much of the APY comes from rewards, which token pays them and when the campaign ends. A one-month campaign can disappear soon after you deposit.
- Supply, or supply and borrow. Borrowing in Euler uses the EVC, so you enable a collateral vault and a controller vault. Watch your health factor before confirming.
- Claim through the app or Merkl. Accrued rewards appear in Euler’s interface and on Merkl. Claiming is a transaction that sends tokens to you; it never requires you to approve your deposits.
- Decide on rEUL timing deliberately. Holding rEUL for the full six months gets you all the EUL; redeeming early burns the locked share. Note the date each rEUL batch arrived.
Risks specific to Euler vaults
Euler is a protocol where your risk depends heavily on which vault you choose. Recent history illustrates this:
- Curator and collateral risk. In late 2025, the collapse of Stream Finance caused heavy losses on Euler’s Plasma deployment, which the team described as effectively wiped out. Vault isolation kept damage contained to the affected markets, but depositors in those vaults were hit.
- Exploits in accepted collateral. In March 2026, an exploit at Resolv exposed vaults that accepted its assets, and Euler noted that immutable market setups left no one able to respond quickly.
- Euler Earn limitations. The team has said Euler Earn lacked loss-socialization mechanisms and adequate tools for managing withdrawal runs, and plans a redeployed version.
- Liquidation. Borrowers can be liquidated if collateral falls or debt rises. Rewards on the borrow side do not offset a liquidation penalty.
- Oracle and depeg risk. Vaults using liquid staking or synthetic dollar collateral depend on oracle prices; a depeg can trigger liquidations quickly.
- History. Euler v1 was exploited in March 2023 for roughly 197 million dollars; the attacker later returned the funds. v2 was rebuilt with extensive audits and a public bug bounty, but the history is a reminder that lending protocols are high-value targets.

How to recognize fake Euler claim pages
Euler’s legitimate domains are euler.finance and its subdomains (app, docs, forum), and the main X account is @eulerfinance. Merkl rewards are claimed either inside the Euler app or on Merkl’s own site. Common traps include:
- “EUL airdrop” or “rEUL conversion” sites. Euler distributes rEUL through Merkl campaigns, not through a one-off airdrop checker. A site asking you to “convert rEUL” outside the official contract flow is suspect.
- Fake chain deprecation notices. As Euler removes inactive chains from its app, scammers may send “urgent migration” links. Real deprecation notices come from Euler’s own channels and the contracts stay on-chain.
- Bad-debt “compensation” pages. After the Stream Finance and Resolv incidents, any page offering compensation needs to be confirmed on the Euler forum first.
- Approval requests on claim pages. A real Merkl claim sends you tokens. A request to approve your vault shares or sign a permit is a drain.
FAQ
Does Euler still run a points program?
No. Points were replaced by rEUL in late 2024, and current incentives run as Merkl campaigns on specific vaults.
What happens if I convert rEUL early?
You receive what has unlocked so far (20% at once plus the linear share), and the remaining locked EUL is burned.
Why do some Euler vaults pay rewards in other tokens?
Curators and partner projects can fund their own Merkl campaigns on Euler vaults, so rewards may come in their tokens.
Is a high rewards APY on a new vault a good sign?
Not by itself. It often reflects a short campaign. Check the curator, collateral types and campaign end date first.
Verdict
Euler offers real, ongoing rewards, but they are a layer on top of lending risk, not a separate opportunity. The rEUL unlock rules reward patience, Merkl campaigns change month to month, and the 2025 to 2026 incidents show that vault selection decides outcomes. Use the official app, read each vault’s curator and collateral, claim only through Euler or Merkl, and treat any standalone “EUL claim” site as hostile.
