StakeStone Rewards 2026: How to Track Omnichain Liquidity Activity Safely

StakeStone Rewards 2026: How to Track Omnichain Liquidity Activity Safely

StakeStone is a useful case study in how a “points protocol” grows up. It started in 2023 as an omnichain liquid staking product for ETH, ran a long points-style campaign, airdropped its STO token in 2025, and now describes itself as a crypto-native neo bank with a payments wallet and a stablecoin yield product. Anyone still searching for a StakeStone airdrop is looking at the wrong stage of the project. This guide explains what StakeStone offers today, how STO rewards actually work after the token launch, and where the real risks are.

What StakeStone built first: STONE and omnichain liquidity

StakeStone’s original product is STONE, a yield-bearing liquid ETH token. According to the StakeStone documentation, when you deposit ETH, a Minter contract issues STONE at the current exchange rate and the ETH goes to the StakeStone Vault. From there it is deployed into a Strategy Pool. Past strategies approved through governance include staking through stETH, EigenLayer, Symbiotic, Rocket Pool, Curve, Balancer and Mellow, with execution handled through a multisig involving custody partners such as Cobo and Coincover.

Two design choices set STONE apart from a standard liquid staking token:

  • OPAP. The Optimizing Portfolio and Allocation Proposal mechanism lets STONE holders vote on which yield routes are added and how ETH is split between them, with a timelock on changes.
  • Omnichain liquidity. STONE is bridged to many chains, and part of the ETH is placed in Native’s PMM lending pool so market makers can offer instant exits on those chains. You can redeem via [Request], which is cheap but waits for the next settlement a few days later, or via [Instant], which is fast but costs more gas and slippage unless there is spare ETH in the buffer pool.

The team later added BTC products. SBTC is an index-style BTC token built mainly from BTCB, and STONEBTC is a yield-bearing BTC asset that takes SBTC or LBTC deposits and routes them to strategies including Babylon and Symbiotic. LiquidityPad lets new chains raise liquidity from StakeStone users, which is how StakeStone supplied early TVL to networks like Scroll and Berachain.

The STO airdrop already happened

This is the fact most out-of-date guides miss. STO, StakeStone’s governance token, has a total supply of one billion. In 2025 it was distributed in two well-documented ways:

  • The community airdrop. StakeStone took a snapshot of holders of STONE, BeraSTONE, SBTC and STONEBTC, then opened a 30-day claim in April 2025. Reports put the distribution at 74 million STO, or 7.4% of supply, across more than 330,000 eligible addresses.
  • The Binance HODLer airdrop. STO was Binance’s 17th HODLer Airdrops project. Users who subscribed BNB to Simple Earn or On-Chain Yields between April 27 and 29, 2025 shared 15 million STO, 1.5% of supply. Spot trading opened on May 2, 2025.

Both claim windows are closed. There is no second StakeStone airdrop announced at the time of writing, and any page offering “STO Season 2 claims” should be treated as fake unless StakeStone’s own channels say otherwise.

How rewards work now: veSTO, gauges and bribes

After the token launch, StakeStone moved to a vote-escrow model familiar from Curve. The governance pages describe it like this:

  1. Convert STO to veSTO in the DAO section of the StakeStone app, on the “STO <=> veSTO” tab. The conversion is 1:1 and immediate.
  2. Lock veSTO on the Lock tab to activate voting power and a yield boost on your liquidity positions. The boost only covers liquidity in proportion to the veSTO you lock.
  3. Vote in the gauges. STO emissions are allocated every two weeks across STONE-Fi pools, BTC pools and LiquidityPad vaults, in proportion to veSTO votes. Lockers can also receive bribes from projects that want emissions directed to their pools.
  4. Exit slowly. Converting veSTO back to STO starts a 30-day vesting period that cannot be cancelled. During that time the tokens earn no boost and cannot vote. Unlocking locked veSTO, by contrast, is immediate.

In other words, “StakeStone rewards” in 2026 means STO emissions to liquidity providers and veSTO lockers, plus whatever yield the underlying assets earn. It is a DeFi incentive system, not a points program.

StakeStone 2.0: the neo bank pivot

In late 2025 StakeStone published a 2.0 whitepaper describing a crypto-native neo bank with account, yield, payment and compliance layers. Two products are live under that banner:

Stone Wallet

Stone Wallet is a payments-first smart wallet. The docs say you sign up with Google, X, Telegram or email, and a smart account is created for you with MPC key management, so there is no seed phrase. It supports USDT, USDC and USD1 on Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain, gives you a payment link and QR code, and currently subsidises network gas. Stone Wallet says it charges no platform fees, though conversion rates and third-party on-ramp fees may apply. Fiat deposits and withdrawals go through regulated third-party providers that can require KYC.

There is also a referral program: the docs say you earn 50% of the commission generated by users you refer, settled monthly and claimable in the app.

Earn and STONEUSD

The Earn module offers STONE for ETH, STONEBTC for BTC and STONEUSD for stablecoins. STONEUSD is a yield-bearing token whose exchange rate rises as its underlying strategies earn. Per the docs, the portfolio mainly consists of market-neutral arbitrage strategies run on centralised exchanges such as Binance, with minting and redemption at the in-contract rate being permissioned. At launch the product was reported to advertise around 12% APY; that figure changes with market conditions and is not guaranteed.

Getting started safely

  1. Start at stakestone.io and follow its links to the app and Stone Wallet. Do not search an app store or a search engine for “StakeStone wallet” and install the first result.
  2. Decide what you actually want. ETH yield means STONE; BTC yield means STONEBTC; stablecoin yield means STONEUSD; payments mean Stone Wallet; governance and boosted LP rewards mean STO and veSTO.
  3. Read the redemption path before depositing. Know whether you will exit through [Request], [Instant] or a DEX, and what each costs.
  4. If you lock veSTO, plan the exit. Converting back to STO takes 30 days. Treat veSTO as illiquid.
  5. Check gauge votes and bribes every two weeks if you lock. Emissions follow votes, so the APR on a pool can change sharply between epochs.
  6. Keep records. Note deposit exchange rates for STONE, STONEBTC and STONEUSD. Yield shows up as a rising rate, not as extra tokens, which matters for tax and for checking performance.

Risks specific to StakeStone

  • Strategy and restaking risk. STONE and STONEBTC route funds through restaking networks and other protocols. Slashing, exploits or depegs in any of those routes flow back to holders.
  • Centralised exchange counterparty risk. STONEUSD’s yield comes largely from CEX arbitrage. An exchange failure, frozen account or strategy loss would hit the token’s value.
  • Secondary market depeg. STONE and STONEUSD market prices can trade below their in-contract rates, especially during stress. Instant exits may cost noticeably more than the quoted rate.
  • Bridged token risk. STONE on other chains relies on bridge infrastructure. A bridge failure affects the bridged version, not the Ethereum vault.
  • Custody and MPC trust. Strategy execution relies on a multisig with custody partners, and Stone Wallet relies on MPC key management. Both reduce some risks and add trust in third parties.
  • KYC and regional limits. Fiat ramps in Stone Wallet go through providers that may require identity checks or block some regions.
  • Token volatility. STO has been highly volatile since listing, so emissions denominated in STO can lose value quickly.

How to spot fake StakeStone claim pages

  • The official website is stakestone.io, with docs at docs.stakestone.io. Watch for look-alikes like “stakestone-claim”, “stakest0ne” or “stonedrop”.
  • The official X account is @Stake_Stone. Check the handle carefully; copies often add an underscore or swap a letter.
  • The STO airdrop claim closed after 30 days in 2025. A page offering an unclaimed STO allocation today is a phishing site.
  • Stone Wallet uses social login and MPC, so you will never be asked for a seed phrase to “restore” a Stone Wallet. Anyone requesting one is a scammer.
  • Be suspicious of “STONEUSD bonus” offers in DMs. Real promotions appear on the official site and X account, not in private messages.

FAQ

Can I still claim the StakeStone airdrop?

No. The community claim ran for 30 days from April 2025, and the Binance HODLer distribution was paid out automatically to eligible Binance users. No further airdrop has been announced.

What is veSTO?

It is the vote-escrowed form of STO. Locked veSTO gives voting power over emissions, boosted yield on liquidity and access to bribes. Converting it back to STO takes 30 days.

Is STONEUSD a stablecoin?

It is a yield-bearing token that represents a share in a portfolio of market-neutral strategies. Its value is meant to rise over time, but it is not a fiat-backed dollar token and it carries strategy and counterparty risk.

Does Stone Wallet charge fees?

StakeStone says there are no platform fees and gas is currently subsidised, but currency conversion and third-party ramp fees can apply.

Verdict

StakeStone is no longer an airdrop play. The token is live, the claims are over and the project has shifted towards payments and yield products. If you want exposure, the honest choices are holding its yield assets, providing liquidity for STO emissions, or locking veSTO and accepting the 30-day exit. Each comes with real strategy, counterparty and token-price risk. Use official links, understand the exit before you enter, and ignore anyone selling a new STO claim. This article is not financial advice; DeFi and yield products can lose value.
