Abstract is one of the few Ethereum layer-2 networks where the rewards program is built directly into the main consumer app rather than bolted on through a third-party quest site. Every week the Abstract Portal recalculates XP for active wallets, hands out badges, and moves users up a tier ladder. That design makes the program easy to follow, but it also gives scammers a very recognisable thing to copy: a branded “XP checker” or “claim your ABS” page. This guide walks through how the official Abstract Rewards system actually works, what is and is not confirmed about a token, and how to tell the real portal from a lookalike.
What Abstract is and who is behind it
Abstract is an Ethereum layer-2 built with the ZK Stack, the same rollup framework that underpins ZKsync, and it uses EigenDA for data availability. The chain is developed by Igloo Inc., the company behind Pudgy Penguins, and the consumer focus shows: the network went to mainnet in January 2025 with an emphasis on games, NFTs, streaming and social trading rather than on DeFi primitives.
The piece that ties the ecosystem together is the Abstract Global Wallet (AGW). AGW is a smart-contract wallet that runs on the chain’s native account abstraction. Users can sign up with an email address, a social login or a passkey, and the same account then works across every app on Abstract. Because the wallet is a smart contract, gas sponsorship and session keys are possible, which is why many Abstract games let you play without approving every single move.
The official starting points are the Abstract website, the Abstract Portal and the Abstract documentation. The team posts announcements from @AbstractChain on X.

How the Abstract Portal is laid out
The Portal is a single web app that bundles discovery, trading and rewards. The sections you will use most are:
- Discover – a directory of apps on Abstract, sorted by category, where users can upvote the projects they like. Voting is itself an XP-earning action.
- Trade – a built-in swap screen for tokens on Abstract. Abstract has announced that swaps in the Portal are routed through the 0x aggregation API.
- Streams – live streaming by creators inside the Portal, with tipping and chat. Streaming and watching are part of the social layer Abstract wants to reward.
- Rewards – the page that shows your XP, tier and badge collection, and where you claim badges you have unlocked.
Your Portal profile is tied to your AGW address. Linking X and Discord accounts to the profile is one of the first tasks the Rewards page suggests, and Discord linking matters for some of the holder bonuses described below.
How XP, badges and tiers work
XP on Abstract is a weekly score. Abstract describes it as a reward for real usage of apps on the chain, and the update lands on the Portal at the start of each week, generally on Mondays, covering the previous week’s onchain activity. You will not see XP tick up in real time after a transaction; if a new week’s numbers have not appeared yet, the update simply has not been published.
The main inputs reported by Abstract and by ecosystem guides are:
- using apps listed in Discover – games, NFT mints, DeFi apps, social apps;
- trading tokens through the Portal or through ecosystem DEXs;
- voting for apps in Discover;
- streaming and other creator activity in the Portal;
- completing badge challenges.
Abstract has never published an exact XP formula, and it has said that spreading activity across genuinely used apps matters more than repeating one transaction many times. Treat any third-party “XP per dollar” table as guesswork.
Badges
Badges come in three flavours. Flash badges are time-limited and usually tied to a specific app or event; they expire within days. Weekly badges recur and reset each week. Secret badges are hidden and are discovered by exploring the ecosystem or following community hints. Once you meet a badge’s conditions, it appears on the Rewards page and must be claimed there. Badges are widely believed to carry weight for future rewards, but Abstract has not published how they will be valued.
Tiers and holder boosts
Every profile starts at Bronze and can climb through Silver, Gold and Platinum as cumulative XP rises. Separately, holders of Pudgy Penguins ecosystem assets can earn bonus weekly XP. Guides based on Abstract’s announcements list PENGU holding thresholds (Pengu I, II and III) and boosts for Lil Pudgys and other collections, verified through the official Abstract Discord. Check the current thresholds on the Rewards page or in the Discord before buying anything purely for a boost, because the bonus terms have been adjusted before.
Builder XP
Abstract has also introduced Builder XP, a separate weekly score for projects building on the chain based on their impact. It is a developer incentive and, according to Abstract, it does not change the XP of regular users.
Where things stand: no token, no claim
At the time of writing, Abstract has not launched a token, has not announced a token generation event date, and has not opened any claim or allocation checker. The team has framed XP as a way to recognise users, and much of the market expects XP and badges to inform a future distribution, but there is no published conversion rate, snapshot date or eligibility rule. That gap is exactly what fake claim sites exploit.
The PENGU token, which you will see all over the ecosystem, belongs to Pudgy Penguins and already trades; it is not an Abstract chain token, and holding it only matters here because of the XP boost.
Step-by-step: getting started on the official Portal
- Open the Portal from a known link. Type portal.abs.xyz yourself or follow the link from abs.xyz. Bookmark it.
- Create or log in to your Abstract Global Wallet. Choose email, social login or passkey. If you sign in with email, use an address protected by two-factor authentication, because that login now controls a wallet.
- Fund the wallet with a small amount of ETH. ETH is the gas token on Abstract. You can bridge from Ethereum or another L2 through the bridges listed in Abstract’s docs, or withdraw from an exchange that supports Abstract directly.
- Link X and Discord on your profile if you want the social tasks and any holder verification.
- Pick a few apps in Discover you would actually use – a game you enjoy, an NFT collection you follow, a trading app – and use them over several weeks rather than all in one afternoon.
- Vote in Discover for the apps you use. It is a low-cost, recurring action.
- Check the Rewards page after the weekly update and claim any badges that have unlocked.

Costs and risks specific to Abstract
- Email-login custody. AGW makes onboarding easy, but anyone who takes over the email or social account behind a wallet can sign for it. Use a strong password, two-factor authentication and, ideally, a passkey.
- Session keys and approvals. Games on Abstract often request session permissions so you can play without constant pop-ups. Read what a session allows, and revoke sessions for apps you have stopped using.
- Memecoins and trading. Trading is an XP input, and the Portal makes it very easy to buy freshly launched tokens. Many of these are thinly traded. Losing money on trades to chase XP is the most common way users end up net negative.
- NFT mint costs. Mints count as activity, but mint prices add up quickly and secondary liquidity is often poor.
- Bridge exposure. Use bridges listed in Abstract’s documentation and confirm the destination chain before signing.
- Sybil filtering. Abstract has said it rewards genuine usage. Running many AGW accounts with identical scripted behaviour is the kind of pattern that projects routinely exclude from distributions.
How to spot fake Abstract claim pages
Because Abstract has no token, any page that asks you to “claim ABS”, “convert XP to tokens” or “check your Abstract airdrop allocation” is fake right now. Some more specific checks:
- Domain. The official domains are abs.xyz and its subdomains such as portal.abs.xyz and docs.abs.xyz. Variants like abs-xyz.app, abstract-portal.com or abstractchain-claim.io are not Abstract.
- X account. The main account is @AbstractChain. Replies to its posts are a favourite place for impersonators with near-identical names and avatars to drop links.
- Login prompts. The real Portal asks you to log in to AGW. It never asks for a seed phrase, and it never asks you to type your email password into a site other than the AGW login flow.
- Discord DMs. Holder-boost verification happens in the official Discord channels, not via a DM from a “moderator” with a link.
- Signatures. A fake “XP sync” that asks for a token approval or a Permit signature is trying to drain assets. Reject and close the tab.
FAQ
When does Abstract XP update?
Weekly, normally at the start of the week, covering the previous week’s activity. The figure on the Rewards page is the authoritative one.
Does Abstract have a token yet?
No. At the time of writing there is no Abstract token, no announced TGE date and no official claim page.
Do I need PENGU or a Pudgy NFT to earn XP?
No. Holdings only add a bonus on top of XP earned through activity. Anyone with an Abstract Global Wallet can earn base XP.
Can I use MetaMask instead of the Abstract Global Wallet?
You can use other wallets with individual Abstract apps, but the Portal profile, XP and badges are built around the Abstract Global Wallet, so that is the account to use if you want activity to show up on the Rewards page.
Is buying more tokens in the Portal the fastest way to earn XP?
Abstract has not published a formula, and the team has emphasised broad, genuine usage. Large trading volume adds price risk without a known reward.
Verdict
Abstract Rewards is a clean system to follow: one Portal, one wallet, one weekly update and a visible badge collection. The sensible approach is to use a handful of apps you would enjoy anyway, keep wallet costs modest, secure the login behind your AGW, and ignore every “claim” link until Abstract itself announces a token on abs.xyz and @AbstractChain. Crypto rewards programs can change or end without notice, and this guide is general information, not financial advice.
